Beautiful views and a beautiful campsite. The creek that ran through was so pure and delightful. The only thing con is that the Missouri Conservation Department passed by frequently but always forgetting to put toilet paper in the stall at Oak Post. It was completely empty for almost a week. We were hiking on foot so the closest gas station was 6 miles away! Luckily the other campers blessed us with a big pack of whipes.
No rabbits we walked a long way with 6 beagles and killed 2 rabbits...
Some of the best public hunting land I've ever come across.
Great place for family fun in the outdoors. A few camping locations on the property with privys plus handicap parking. New regulations this year include no trail cameras allowed. Also pop up ground blinds must be removed daily/pack in, pack out. Deer and Turkey population varies from year to year. Hunter population has exploded in recent years. Ive spent several years on the property and I've never seen anyone harvest over a 140 class buck. Squirrels and racoons are abundant, rabbits moderate, and snakes minimal. There are a few fishless fire ponds scattered about the conservation area too. If you enjoy just being outdoors it's a fun place to hike the tractor trails or blaze one of your own utilizing a handheld GPS. Please observe and respect hunting seasons and wear Blaze Orange when required.
Did the Danville Glades Trail (~3 mile loop, converted old road, about half and half forest/grassland) late morning on a Sunday in late June. Nice place to check out wildflowers, but the dense vegetation crowded out views of the surrounding hillside. We and one other party were the only ones there. Primitive campsites at the parking lots looked nice, and the trails and roads were well-maintained. Watch out for the steep gravel road going down to the Danville Glades trailhead, might be a bit tricky in wet weather. Probably not a destination-worthy hiking trail, but the area as a whole may be decent for hunting or camping. I look forward to checking it out in fall/winter.
